Queer Oriented Rock/Rap Day School. Empowering Southern queer youth and building community through music!

Some friends of mine have a fundraiser for an amazing queer summer camp called QORDS. They describe it as ”a vehicle for expressing gender and sexuality, [that] harbors an environment of self-discovery and social change.”

But it can’t happen unless they have your help! Click through the link to get to their indiegogo page. There you’ll find more information about the camp, how you can help, and what’s in it for you! (Apart from being totally awesome and helping Southern queer youth have a safe and creative space to express themselves in the summer!)

Hey, As the Crow Flies fans! Some fine folks in North Carolina are trying to start up a SUMMER MUSIC CAMP FOR QUEER YOUTH! I’m sure most of you have some feelings (to say the least!) about LGBTQ inclusivity in summer camps, so it’d be great if you could support this camp! Funds will go straight to helping get the camp off the ground, and also to scholarships for young queer musicians — both good things.

So today I got home after another long battle at the DMV, and what should I find waiting for me but a package from one Melanie Gillman, former CCS classmate and super awesome comic artist and human being (she also has a tumblr you should check out). What was inside, you ask? THIS PICTURE WAS INSIDE, I ANSWER. Also a really nice letter about how she’s doing and how cool her new job is and how a lot of her new roommates are snuggly cats, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY THIS PICTURE!

This is the first fan art I’ve ever gotten for ANYTHING! I love it. And I’m totally losing my shit over it, haha! Also, Melanie, sorry I didn’t ask for permission to post it before going ahead and, well, posting it, but it’s mine now and I want to show it to the whole world and make them SO JEALOUS.

What really needs to be said here, though, is that Amelia Onorato is drawing this amazing graphic novel about selkies and Irish brogue and early-1900s North Atlantic island drama which I love, and you should all go read. Mia is an artistic nemesis of mine, and one day I hope to be even half as good as she is at capturing character designs, and perfect, spot-on gestures and expressions. Read her comic!
